AXA Achievement Community
Scholarship:
Deadline: February 1, 2012
Applicants
to the AXA Achievement Community Scholarship must be:
o United States citizens or legal residents living or
claiming residency in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia or Puerto
Rico.
o Current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time
in an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States
by Fall 2012. Enrollment at an accredited postsecondary institution outside of
the United States will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
o
Ambitious and motivated, as evidenced by
outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities.
Selection of winners, known as AXA Achievers, is made by our nonprofit partner,
Scholarship America. An AXA Achiever must demonstrate:
o Ambition and drive
o Determination to set and reach goals
o Respect for self, family and community
o
Ability to succeed in college
More than 300 students, to be known as AXA
Achievers, will be selected to receive a $2,000 award. Up to twelve
awards will be given per AXA Advisors branch office, depending upon how many
eligible, submitted applications are received.

National Peace Essay
Contest:
Deadline: February 1, 2012
This essay contest is intended to promote serious
discussion among high school students, teachers and national leaders about
international peace and conflict resolution today and in the future.
State-level selection categories include the fifty U.S. states, Washington,
D.C., U.S. Territories, and American students abroad. First place state-level
winners compete for national awards.
o 1 National award, first place: $10,000*
o 1 National award, second place: $5,000*
o 1 National award, third place: $2,500*

KFC Colonels:

Scholarship covers:

Awards can be up to $5,000 per year.
Eligibility:
o Earn a minimum GPA of 2.75
o Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public,
in-state college or university.
o Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Ned McWherter
Scholars Program:
Deadline: February 15, 2012
The Ned McWherter Scholars
Program is intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school
graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Tennessee high school seniors
starting their last semester in high school may apply.
To be
eligible, the applicant must:
o be a resident of Tennessee, a U.S. citizen or
permanent resident, and attend an eligible Tennessee college or university full
time, and
o have at least a 3.5 unweighted
cumulative grade point average, and
o
have a minimum composite score of 29 on
the ACT or 1280 on the SAT (math and critical reading only).
An
application, in order to be considered complete, must be accompanied by:
o an official high school transcript that contains the
applicant’s high school grades through the first semester of the senior year,
and
o
an official ACT/SAT score.
The award is $6,000 per academic year, $3,000 from
the State of Tennessee and $3,000 from the college or university attended.
Awards are made in equal installments each term throughout the academic year.

UTC Grote Chemistry:
Deadline: February 15, 2012
In
order to be eligible for a Grote Chemistry Scholarship, a student must:
o complete a course in high school chemistry with an A
or B
o attain a high school grade point average of 3.5 or
above
o have a composite score of 26 or above on the ACT exam
(or SAT equivalent)
o
declare chemistry as the major at the
University of Tennessee Chattanooga
Eligible majors include all BS and BA Chemistry
degrees (including biochemistry, UTEACH, pre-medicine, and pre-dental).
Selection of the Grote Chemistry Scholarship
recipients is based on academic performance, interest in chemistry, and
potential for continued outstanding achievement.
The completed Grote application (submitted online or
by mail) and two letters of recommendation for the Grote Chemistry Scholarship
must be postmarked by February 15, 2012. Announcement of the awards will be
made in April.

Best Buy Scholarship
Program:
Deadline: February 15, 2012
The Best Buy Children’s Foundation recognizes how
important teens are to our community and our society.
This year the program will award scholarships to
students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a
full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation.
Up to 1,200 students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. If you’re a 9-12 grade student who plans to
attend post-secondary education, have solid grades and are involved in
community service or work experience, we encourage you to apply!

the free FAFSA form with your student as
soon as possible. This form will tell your student how much financial help will

your student search for and complete scholarship applications. Here are a few

Important Things to Remember….

All
lunch bills must be paid before graduation. Payment plans are available.
·
Any
outstanding obligations must be taken care of before graduation. Examples- textbook return, library
fines, fees, ect.

If
students wish to be recognized for scholarships they have been awarded, they must
submit all information to Mrs. Deborah Gibson by May 1st.
