Text Box: 	The beginning of school has came and went already and we have gotten out to a great start.  Students are still learning boundaries and school rules but we are progressing nicely.
	Academically we will review our alphabet from Aa—Zz and the words “I” and “can” in our preview unit Start Smart.  The first reading unit will focus on Families which will begin August 9th.   We will concentrate on one letter a week starting  with Mm and then Aa in unit 1 of reading.  Please have your child read the sentences and booklets that are sent home in their Text Box: folders in the homework section.  Please make sure that any written work or tracing is completed by your child and not an adult or older sibling in the home.  Your child will not learn how to write it if they do not try themselves.  It will improve and become easier in time.
	In math, we  will discuss shapes, colors, sorting (by color, size, shape, and object). Copying and constructing a two-color pattern.  We will also work on counting skills and recognizing, writing, and matching sets of objects to the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9  and 10.
	
Text Box: 	We are learning our buses and will begin leaving from the room in the afternoon and will begin to walk to the room in the morning by ourselves within the first month of school.
	Be patient while we are picking up a few new things in the room like painting, computers, and listening center.  These will be added one each week after we are familiar with a daily routine.  This takes several weeks to complete.
	Look for a newsletter each month to help keep you informed on what we plan to do in class.
Text Box: 	We will have a celebration day on the second Friday of each month to honor those who have a birthday during that month.  We are allowed to have only one party each month.  The only items we can have at our celebrations include: popcorn, baked tortilla chips and salsa, yogurt, fruit Text Box: and vegetables.  For drinks  we will serve juices or water only.
	Our first celebration will be August 20th.  We will send home a supply list for the party; if you can help out that would be great.

             Please hang the color day chart on your refrigerator at home to see what color to wear to school each day.  This begins on Monday, August 9th.  If you do not have that color, please find something as close as possible.  If you need a second copy please let us know and we will send it home in their folder.
